Reason why

I recently moved to a larger home - three stories plus a cellar - a total of whooping 165m2
Unfortunately the new home did not have any empty tubes for creating a reasonable Network.

The new home came also equipped with a fibre connection - yeah!

So I had to come up with a solution

Setup

Obviously I wanted Wireless throughout the entire house and also have the possibility to use a wired connection where required

Things looked like this

  • Fiber connection in cellar
  • Old phone lines in every floor
  • Cable TV connection in every floor - routing unknown
  • As mentioned not enough empty tubes to fit enough Ethernet cables

Since my new home is a rental I decided against drilling holes an slits into the masonry. Therefore I had several choices

  • Repeaters from cellar all the way to the second floor
    • Maybe this would have solved my need for WiFi on every floor but I would come short with the ethernet connections
  • Ethernet over Powerline
    • Reading reviews and watching a couple of YouTube videos I wasn't convinced this this solution would Network

G.hn Modems

Scavenging the Internet I stumbles upon G.hn Modems - they are supposed to bring Gigabit Ethernet over either Coax or Telephone Lines.

I got two modems from a German supplier Giga Copper

In general I used this Setup
